Bomb cyclone forces CAL to cancel four JFK flights

The bomb cyclone, a powerful winter storm which theverge.com described as acting “a bit like a snowy hurricane,” yesterday forced Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL) to cancel four flights.

The flights were either to or from John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York (NY).

CAL said owing to to the approaching storm which would affect NY and environs, these flights, scheduled to depart yesterday, were cancelled:

BW 015 from Norman Manley International, Kingston, Jamaica to JFK; BW 014 from JFK to Kingston, Jamaica;

BW 524 from Piarco to JFK; and BW 525 from JFK to Piarco.

The airline said affected customers travelling to or from New York from yesterday to tomorrow will be permitted to change or cancel their reservations without penalty once they have a confirmed ticket issued before Thursday. In addition, CAL said these passengers may make changes for travel up to January 17 and any increase in airfare due to the new travel date will be waived. The airline was also willing to issue full refunds for flights on those dates.

But the airline said it would not be responsible for arrangements or transportation to/from an alternative airport or hotel or overnight expenses caused by the bad weather.

CAL customers were advised to visit www.caribbean-airlines.com and check their flight status before going to the airport or to call its call centres for further details.
