Increase secondary school $

THE EDITOR: Last month, it was encouraging to see a prompt response from the Ministry of Education on the matter of the payment of outstanding subventions to 13 private secondary schools.

However, there is another issue that needs to be addressed urgently.

While the Ministry continues to pay $1,200 per term for each student assigned to selected private secondary schools, the reality is that the instructional cost per student is about $3,600 to $5,000 depending on the school.

The present amount of $1,200 per student needs to be reviewed, and the Ministry should consider making the increase retroactive to a mutually acceptable date. The Association of Private Secondary School Principals may be able to assist in this regard.
