Ban fireworks importation

THE EDITOR: Once again the issue of fireworks has raised its ugly and “uncontrolled” head!

Indeed, I have just had several pieces of debris land on the roof of my relatively modest house and I feel sure that many other residents have been similarly affected.

What is more disconcerting is that these remnants originate in private residences and not from the Eddie Hart Savannah.

No wonder there has been a rapid falling in law enforcement and the administration of justice generally as the perpetrators continue having a hearty laugh at the authorities every year.

Every year we hear promises that this or that will be done in order to prevent a recurrence and to bring some degree of control.

What is the big thing? These nuisances are not made in TT! Why does the Minister of Finance not amend the Customs Schedule banning their importation.

He continues to bemoan the shortage of foreign exchange, however, as small as it is, he would, nevertheless, save us an unnecessary leakage. Not to mention the nuisance value for pets and the hearing-impaired. God Help Us!
