Political parties get your act together
THE EDITOR: If neither the Peoples National Movement (PNM) nor the United National Congress (UNC) have it within themselves the required talent to govern Tt successfully, to whom can we turn? Dare I say nobody? Because, truth be told, there is indeed nobody.
What we have, waiting in the wings is not sufficiently politically attractive. I have to beg pardon of the Congress of the People (COP) and the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) but like it or not, they just cannot inspire enough of the electorate. As bland as biscuit without cheese, bake without butter or plain potato roti, there is nothing politically inspiring on which to feed.
The COP is totally reduced to one mouthpiece and an embarrassment best forgotten. Harsh words? You come and tell me what they can do and I will listen. The MSJ? Look to Cuba and Venezuela and admit to yourself that a socialist leaning brand of government will not work in TT. Our innate natures, our culture born from enslavement and indentured labour, calls for expressions of material success.
We cannot be bottled and each citizen forced to one teaspoonful of pride as dictated by a band of men who believe themselves to be eminently justified in forcing 1.3 million citizens to their way of thinking. So, what do we do in 2018? In 2018 we ask, nay we beg, the PNM and the UNC to stop playing the fool. There is no race but the human race and we have to fix what we have. We are shackled by feelings of inferiority and pernicious envy. We are greedy beyond compare. When we look at the legal fraternity now engaged in disembowelment, the only recourse is for the PNM and the UNC to go back to their respective drawing boards.
There is no Mother Africa and no Mother India. Supporters must learn to widen choices and move beyond racial hindrances. Yes, we will politically see-saw between the two parties but what else is there but people who cannot feed us what we really need? Only the best in each elected representative is good enough.
For 2018, I am imploring both the PNM and the UNC: get your act together. We need a more ambitious Government. Be bold. Stop being so cautious and walk brave. We need an Opposition that must let go nonsensical opposing tactics. The losers are the people in most need.
In 2018, the truth of what is necessary, will set everybody free.
