Help needed at Arima court
THE EDITOR: Please publish this letter in your daily newspaper concerning the state of affairs at the Arima Magistrate court.
Many of us who visit this office from Mondays to Fridays from 8 am to 4 pm seeking justice are disappointed in the way things have turned out after filing documents concerning petty civil matters to the office of the justice of the peace several months ago.
The reason given for the delay in getting summons served to defendants was that there was no petty civil clerk assigned to process matters before a hearing date could be set. The justice of the peace assigned to this court has to supervise the office staff, attend courts and deal with public matters such as lost ID cards and driving permits, etc during his or her work day. There is no assistant clerk of the peace to assist with the huge backlog of matters pending either. Failure to serve the public in a timely manner is tantamount to justice denied.
