Police are working on the theory that Jabari Hall, a 20-year-old man who was shot in the back in Tobago over the weekend, was an innocent bystander who was struck with a stray bullet.

Hall is now said to be in a stable condition at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

Hall, the son of a police officer at the Traffic Branch of the Scarborough Police Station, was shot in the back on Friday night by a gunman at Egypt Junction in Bethel.

Sources told Newsday in an earlier report that the bullet entered his right side and may have chipped his spine. He had to be airlifted to Trinidad for emergency medical treatment.

However, Newsday was later told that the bullet was safely removed, and Hall did not suffer serious injuries.

Hall reportedly did not see who shot him and he was not known to police for any particular crimes, leading them to believe that he was not the intended target.

Investigations into the shooting are still ongoing.
