Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley abused his parliamentary privilege to advance a hoax of outlandish and malicious political persecution against his opponents in the 2013 E-mailgate scandal and he should resign, says Princes Town MP Barry Padarath.

Expressing support for Leader of the Opposition Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s call for Rowley to resign given the fact that the police found no substance in the E-mailgate probe, Padarath said, Rowley should “face the consequences of his actions and or resign for what has been described as the biggest national embarrassment to a sitting Prime Minister.”

In a release, Padarath said the allegations contained in the fictitious e-mails included conspiracy to commit murder and involved Persad-Bissessar.

Rowley, then Leader of the Opposition and now Prime Minister, he said, took ownership of the words he uttered in the Parliament on that day.

Rowley now has egg on his face, Padarath said, since he based his election campaign in 2015 on lies and falsehoods, and it appears that he cannot keep his words or his actions in check.

Rowley is intent, he said, “on governing by fear, innuendos, conspiracies, allegations, continuous shifting of the goalpost and blame.”

He accused Rowley of lacking any moral conscience in that he is yet to accept responsibility and admit that he was wrong in the E-mailgate scandal.

“This wrong and strong approach is going to be one of the biggest blows to the government,” he said.
