Man shot in mother’s presence

Relatives of 28-year-old Jerome Samaroo are in a state of trauma after he was gunned down in front of his mother at the family’s restaurant in Factory Road, Diego Martin on Saturday.

Newsday spoke to Samaroo’s mother Pamela Samaroo at the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday. She said she did not know why anyone would want to kill her son.

“He had small run-ins with people, but he never went out looking for trouble. He was very hard-working and would try to avoid confrontation at all costs. “This is horrible, what happened.” According to reports, Samaroo, who worked as a cook at his mother’s restaurant, was accosted by a lone gunman shortly after 3 pm on Saturday, and was shot him five times. Samaroo ran out into the street and collapsed. He was taken to the St James Infirmary, where he died.
