Life in prison for gun crimes

THE EDITOR: While the PNM Government and the UNC Opposition point fingers at each other and wage a propaganda war over the failure of the anti-gang legislation, there is a simple solution.

Is a three-fifths majority needed to pass a simple gun law, mandating life imprisonment for any gun-related crime in TT? I doubt it. But I am not a lawyer.

Life imprisonment should mean exactly that. It should not mean serving 20-25 years and then the person gets out.

The Government and Opposition now have a freely given, partial solution to crime that would not cost the country hundreds of millions of dollars in crafted corruption.

Bets are on that this free offer would never be accepted by either the Government or the Opposition.
