Moruga resident charged for shooting girl, 2

Moruga resident Claude Mike is expected to appear before a Princes Town Magistrate this morning charged with five offences after an incident in which a two-year-old girl was shot and wounded.

Candy Loubon, of Penal Rock Road, Moruga, sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and left leg. Up to last evening, she remained at the paediatric ward of the San Fernando Teaching Hospital. Pellets from a shotgun cartridge are still inside her body. Candy, who in September survived a horrific accident, was wounded while at home on Saturday morning.

Late evening, Sgt Commissiong of the Moruga police station formally charged the 63-year-old man with wounding Candy with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm. He was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger lives.

It is alleged that after a domestic dispute next door with a male relative, Mike opened fire.

The accused had gone into hiding after the shooting but surrendered on Monday. PC Corey Aguilera, under the guidance of ASP Douglas and Insp Subero, went to a forested area along Penal Rock Road and arrested Mike.

Aguilera, of the South-Western Division, took him to the Penal police station The suspect was later handed over to Southern Division police.
