Foul play suspected in gardener’s death

Foul play is suspected in the death of Cunupia gardener Ballraj Ramcharan, 50, whose body was found face down in the Cunupia River on Tuesday. He was reported missing on Monday.

According to police reports, at about 4.20 pm on December 2, Ramcharan of Binda Street, Jerningham Junction, left home on his bicycle, after telling his wife Kamiel Ramdass, 56, that he was going to buy Chinese food at a restaurant at Jerningham Junction Road.

He did not return and a missing persons report was made to the Cunupia Police Station on Monday.

Around 4 pm on Tuesday, Ramdass and several neighbours were searching for Ramcharan in an area of Bridal Road, Jerningham Junction, when they discovered his body.

They contacted Cunupia police. The DMO visited the scene and ordered the body’s removal to the Mt Hope Hospital Mortuary pending a post mortem at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.

The body bore an apparent chop wound to the left side of the head.

Cunupia police are continuing inquiries.
