Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Stuart Young yesterday said the Government “has not limited its resources” to the Children’s Authority. Young was responding to a question from Opposition Senator Wade Mark in the Senate. Young said Government took the abuse of all citizens of TT “very seriously.”

He said, “The Children’s Authority, for first time, is working very properly and consistently with the OPM to ensure all attempts are made to reduce the number of cases of child abuse.” Young said the population would soon see the launch of specific courts to deal with children and child abuse. Young said Government had also been providing maximum resources to a special unit in the Police Service which dealt with cases of child abuse.

Young questioned Mark’s claim about 6,000 reports of child abuse being anticipated by year’s end.
