Santa Rosa sneak into top spot

FC Santa Rosa reclaimed the top spot in League One of the Trinidad and Tobago Super League on Sunday. In the penultimate round of matches, the Arima-based squad claimed a 1-0 win over Police at the Arima Velodrome, courtesy of a 29th minute goal from veteran midfielder Ryan Stewart. Overnight leaders Guaya United saw their encounter against 1976 Phoenix FC postponed due to inclement weather at the Canaan/Bon Accord Recreation Ground.

The Guaya-Phoenix game is expected to be replayed on Thursday at the Canaan/Bon Accord Ground. Santa Rosa have a tally of 50 points from 21 games while Guaya have 49 from 20.

The final round of matches in League One is scheduled for December 10.

There were no other changes to the standings, with Club Sando Moruga, Cunupia FC and WASA FC all in winners’ row. Club Sando Moruga showed no mercy on the visiting Defence Force outfit, at the Grand Chemin Recreation Ground, Moruga, as they romped to a 6-2 win. Amin Julien notched a hat-trick for Club Sando Moruga, as he struck in the 19th, 79th and 81st, while Maurice Dick (37th), Nigel John (58th) and Alexi Julien (74th) chipped in with one apiece. Keron Bruno (60th) and Ronald St Louis (67th) were the goal-getters for Defence Force.

Third-placed Cunupia FC breezed past Bethel FC 3-1 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

Kevon Woodley (47th), Hakeem Legall (68th) and Urbane Joseph (90th) were on target for Cunupia FC, while ex-TT defender Makan Hislop (80th) replied for Bethel. And WASA FC had a 3-0 win, by default, over cellar-placed Siparia Spurs at the WASA Ground, St Joseph. There will be a rescheduled Round 21 game today, with the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) hosting Queen’s Park at the UTT O’Meara Campus Ground, Arima, from 8 pm.
