Exiles and Rainbow won the Under-19 boys and Under-19 girls titles respectively on day one of the Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football Union Harvard Heineken Rugby Sevens Festival at St Mary’s Ground in St Clair, yesterday.

In the Under-19 boys final, Exiles dominated Rydeus to prevail with a 32-12 victory. Earlier in the group stage, Exiles and Rydeus were both unbeaten. Exiles won Group A with a 17-5 win over Harvard, a 24-5 victory over Royalians and a 28-0 triumph over Rainbow. In Group B, Rydeus recorded a 29-5 result over Northern, a 24-10 win over Police and a 28-12 victory over Carib. Despite losing in the final, Kareem Thomas of Rydeus won the Under-19 boys MVP award.

Harvard earned bronze with a 32-0 shut out over Northern in the third-place match, while Royalians got past Carib in the fifth-place playoff.

In the Under-19 girls round robin tournament, Rainbow defeated Royalians 24-5, Harvard 25-0 and East/Rydeus 28-0 to claim the title in convincing fashion.

Royalians finished second, while Harvard ended third. Zakiya Belle of Rainbow won the MVP award. In the school girls tournament, Holy Name finished as the top team.

The Festival continues today with action in the senior women’s and men’s divisions.
