Lawyers in court for marijuana trafficking

Two lawyers have appeared before a magistrate charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Jason Jackson, 36, and 39-year-old Cathy Ann Campaign were each granted bail of $10,000 when they appeared before magistrate Rae Roopchan in the Mayaro Magistrates’ Court.

The charge read by the magistrate alleged that on Sunday they had 43 grammes of marijuana within 500 metres of the Mayaro Government Primary School.

They were charged under Section 5 of the Dangerous Drugs Act by PC Versammy.

The charge was laid jointly and the lawyers entered not-guilty pleas. They were arrested by members of the Eastern Division Task Force during a roadblock in Mayaro.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Two lawyers are expected to appear before a Mayaro magistrate today, jointly charged with drug trafficking. They were arrested on the Naparima/Mayaro Road Monday night at a police roadblock.

Reports are that their vehicle was stopped and searched near the Mayaro Government Primary School and police found a quantity of marijuana in a bag and a cigarette containing drugs.

The drugs were seized and the lawyers were detained and later charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
