Four men in court for sexual assault, kidnapping

Four men appeared in the Scarborough Magistrate’s 3rd Court on Monday before Magistrate Indar Jagroo on two separate matters involving kidnapping and sexual assault of a school girl and the kidnapping of a mother and her child.

In the first matter, 18-year-old Carnbee resident Junior Ferguson was granted bail in the sum of $80,000, when he appeared jointly charged with Anroy Murray, 37, also of Carnbee, and Darren Job, 36, of Belle Garden on reports of sexual penetration and abduction.

The men were not called upon to plea as the charges were laid indictably. Murray and Job were denied bail and advised of their rights to apply to Judge in Chambers for bail.

It is alleged that a 15-year-old student got into a car in Roxborough last Wednesday to get to her school in Scarborough. Shortly afterwards, however, the driver went off route, heading north towards Bloody Bay from Roxborough, rather than west towards Scarborough. There were two other male passengers in the car. Reports indicate that the car, upon reaching Bloody Bay, ran into a ditch and the student was able to alert some Unemployment Relief Workers (URP) workers who took quick

action, rescuing her, and holding two of the men captive until the police arrived on the scene. A third man who escaped was subsequently captured.

In an unrelated incident, 41-year-old Darren Grant of Franklyn Road, Les Coteaux also appeared before Magistrate Jagroo, charged with kidnapping and assault by threats. The charges were laid indictably and Charles was placed on bail in the sum of $75,000. Charges were laid by Sergeant Keith Roberts of the Roxborough Police Station.

It is alleged that around 10 am last Thursday, a 21-year-old mother of Roxborough was at her home when her ex-common-law husband visited her and offered to take her and her child to lunch. The woman agreed and whilst in the vehicle, the man sped off in a different direction to where he said he was taking mother and child to lunch. He also told the woman that he was going to kill her. The woman jumped out of the speeding car with the child in her arms. They were both rushed to the Scarborough General Hospital where they were treated and discharged.

All four are expected to reappear in court on December 27.
