Environment walkabout in Charlotteville today

Charlotteville takes the spotlight today when a village walkabout takes from 3-6 pm at which time residents will get information on the local environment from members of a multi-stakeholder group that is developing recommendations for management of the natural assets of Tobago.

Th walkabout is part of the “Improving Forest and Protected Area Management in Trinidad and Tobago” project, which is funded by the TT Government, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the European Union and the Global Environment Facility.

Villagers will have the opportunity to learn about the project, ask questions about the natural environment of Charlotteville and surrounding areas and to understand how and why these are valued and need to be protected.

The walkabout team will comprise members of local environmental and community groups, other non-governmental bodies and officers of the Department of Natural Resources and Forestry and the Fisheries Division. This team is developing recommendations for management of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve and the North-East Tobago Marine Area, and the community interaction will assist in capturing people’s views in this regard.
