Communities key to building Tobago

A slate of new and innovative training programmes will be rolled out in the New Year in communities across Tobago to help residents improve their quality of life. So announced Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles at last Thursday plenary of the Tobago House of Assembly at the Chamber, Jerningham Street, Scarborough. Charles said the programmes will be initiated by the Division of Community Development, Enterprise Development and Labour.

He said making the community “the basis for the development of our people and our island” was behind the Assembly’s decision to combine community and enterprise development in one Division. He said the new programmes will allow Tobagonians to “position themselves, if they so desire, to become entrepreneurs, and to participate in furthering their own livelihoods and deepening the productive capacity of themselves and the island.”

He said the programmes will also see a partnering with the National Training Agency to train employees at the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment “over a nine-month period to teach vocational and technical skills to residents in the various communities.”
