Woman among three in court for gun and ammo

STACY MOORE

A 25-year-old woman and two men yesterday appeared before a Couva magistrate charged with possession of a firearm and 15 rounds of ammunition. Shernell Bayne and brothers Jason and Joel Nicholas were taken before senior magistrate Siumongal Ramsaran to answer the charges.

The charges allege that on Thursday last at Lodge Road, Rosehill Claxton Bay, Bayne, 24-year-old Jason and 26-year-old Joel illegally had in their possession a 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

The charges were laid indictably by Sgt Ken Ali of the Couva CID and the accused were not called upon to plead. It is alleged police executed a search warrant at a house in Claxton Bay and found the items. The gun and ammunition were produced in court.

The three were represented by attorney Daryl Jiles. Ramsaran was told Bayne, who works at a supermarket, has no previous convictions or pending matters. She was granted bail in the sum of $40,000 while the brothers were granted bail in the sum of $350,000.
