A Valencia man was denied bail when he appeared before a Sangre Grande magistrate yesterday charged with possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

Nehru Mohammed, 33, of Clarence Trace, appeared before Senior Magistrate Debra Quintyne in the First Court. He is to return to court tomorrow.

Mohammed was arrested by Sangre Grande CID, Task Force and Crime Patrol Unit officers, who responded to a report of a man being seen with a gun at Clarence Trace at about 1.20 pm on Sunday.

Police confronted the man, disarmed him and retrieved a pistol and an empty magazine.

Mohammed was charged by PC Arvin Boodram of the Sangre Grande CID.
