Lee: Govt has no plan

United National Congress (UNC) deputy political leader David Lee is not surprised a recent MFO poll concluded that half the population saw the Government as doing a poor job running the country, as he claimed Government has no plan or vision.

“The Opposition has been saying that from day one. This Government has no vision, no plan. Clearly you are seeing that the people are now beginning to realise this. The country is not seeing any hope out of the position we are in at this point in time. It goes back to what the Minister of Finance’s budget statement was themed, ‘Changing the Paradigm.’ That means they want to start all over, to forget the past 24 months and how they ran the country, so ‘let us change the paradigm in our third year.’

“But we are saying as the Opposition, no, no, no. You have to be accountable for your last 24 months. When you came into Government you knew oil prices were down but what have you been doing about the economy in the last 24 months? The people are now realising the Government has no plan to take us forward.”

Lee later congratulated Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar on her re-election as UNC political leader on Sunday by a record turnout. “It has been one of the best turnouts for an internal election. She garnered over 20,300 votes, way above what she got in 2013. So it augurs well for the party.”
