Four men charged with sexual assault, kidnapping

KINNESHA GEORGE-HARRY

Four men appeared in the Scarborough Magistrates’ Third Court yesterday before magistrate Indar Jagroo on two separate matters involving kidnapping and sexual assault of a schoolgirl and the kidnapping of a woman and her child.

In the first matter, 18-year-old Carnbee resident Junior Ferguson was granted $80,000 bail when he appeared jointly charged with 37-year-old Anroy Murray, also of Carnbee, and 36-year-old Darren Job of Belle Garden, with sexual penetration and abduction.

They were not called upon to plead as the charges were laid indictably.

Murray and Job were denied bail and advised of their right to apply to a judge in chambers. The charges were laid by PC Lenora Clarke-George of the Child Protection Unit.

It is alleged that a 15-year-old student got into a car in Roxborough on Wednesday last to go to school in Scarborough. Shortly afterwards, however, the driver went off route, heading towards Bloody Bay from Roxborough, rather than towards Scarborough. There were two other male passengers in the car. Reports indicate that the car, on reaching Bloody Bay, ran into a ditch and the student was able to call out to some Unemployment Relief Programme workers who rescued her and held two of the men until police arrived.

In an unrelated incident, 41-year-old Darren Grant of Franklyn Road, Les Coteaux also appeared before Jagroo.

He was charged with kidnapping and assault by threats. He was given $75,000 bail. The charges were laid by Sgt Keith Roberts of the Roxborough Police Station.

It is alleged that around 10 am, a 21-year-old woman of Roxborough was at her home when her ex common-law husband visited and offered to take her and her daughter to lunch. The woman agreed, but while they were in his car, the man allegedly sped off in a different direction from where they had agreed to go.

He allegedly told the woman he was going to kill her.

he woman told police she jumped out of the speeding car with the child in her arms. They were taken to the Scarborough General Hospital where they were treated and discharged.

All four accused are expected to reappear on December 27.
