The police will be writing media houses requesting footage from the protest in Beetham on Thursday, says head of the Port of Spain Division Snr Supt Floris Hodge-Griffith.

Speaking to Sunday Newsday yesterday, Hodge-Griffith said they are seeking to identify people involved in the protests through the camera footage they obtained and they are conducting an exercise where officers are viewing the footage to try and identify people. She said, however, the camera footage is not clear and they will be writing formally to media houses to request any footage taken on the day.

“We will use all angles in identifying perpetrators.”

She said once people are identified the police will be moving swiftly to prosecute them.

On patrols in the Beetham, she said there are dedicated traffic and highway patrols and specifically at the Beetham dump. She also said there is a static patrol at Excel Composite School as well as roving patrols.

She reported that after the incident on Thursday they have added extra patrols and these are continuing.

The protests and major traffic disruption in the Beetham were triggered by the arrest of two men in the area.
