Education Minister Anthony Garcia says he is assured about security arrangements at Hillview College following a break-in on Monday. He made the comments in response to a question from Oropouche West MP Vidia Gayadeen-Gopeesingh during Parliament on Friday. She asked if the minister could ensure the safety of students and security of equipment following the break-in. Garcia, in response, said Hillview was a denominational school (Presbyterian) and received a grant from Government to provide security services. He said he met with some security officers at Hillview on Friday, and he was assured the school’s security needs were being met.

In a release this week, the Presbyterian Secondary Schools Board expressed concern over a break-in at Hillview College, Tunapuna, on Monday, in which security cameras and a digital video recorder (DVR) machine were stolen, and pledged to continue collaborating with the Ministry of Education to address safety and security at the college. The release said the incident was deeply troubling, citing Hillview’s contribution to the holistic development of the community, and promised swift action.
