Bandit beaten by victims

The tables turned on a 32-year-old San Fernando bandit who, minutes after beating and robbing three Cuban nationals, was held by the victims who rained blows on him before handing him over to police. He is expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate today on three counts of robbery with violence.

The drama unfolded shortly before midnight on Thursday at Leotaud Street in San Fernando. Police said, at about 11.40 pm the victims were at a house when they were accosted by four bandits, one of whom had a gun. They began to beat the foreigners and demanded money and valuables from them.

They then attempted to flee the scene but the Cubans, with the help of others, pursued them and caught the 32-year-old man. Before calling the police, the Cubans administered a sound beating on him, prompting him to call on the landlord to rescue him. His accomplices had already escaped. He was handed over to police. PC James of the San Fernando CID laid the charges.
