Man held for prison officer murder

Police from Homicide Bureau Region III and South-Western Division Task arrested the lone suspect, an ex-convict, in last month’s killing of prison officer Richard Sandy, 47.

Sandy, of Pleasantville, was gunned down on October 8 while liming at a bar in Gasparillo. He died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the San Fernando General Hospital, hours after the shooting. Sandy, a prison officer for the past 22 years, was last posted at the Rations Room in the Port of Spain prison.

The suspect, 33, had gone into hiding after the shooting.
