Founder of Kalloo's Auto Rentals dies

Gareth ‘Sabu’ Kalloo, founder of Kalloo’s Auto Rentals died on Monday after suffering a massive heart attack while waiting to board a flight to Miami for his annual medical check up.

Kalloo who was also involved in the tourism business was with his wife Kala, shortly after 7 am, when he complained of pains to his chest. Paramedics at the airport attempted to resuscitate Kalloo but there was no defibrillator. Employees assisted in transporting the father of three to hospital but he died while en route.

Kalloo was the father of Arvin Kalloo, the founder of Kallco. He leaves to mourn wife Kala and his other sons Narvin and Anveer. Kalloo is expected to be buried today following a service at his home in Bimitti Road, South Valsayn at 11 am. The body will then be taken to the Caroni Presbyterian for a funeral service and final internment at the Washington cemetery in Caroni.

Relatives said Kalloo was anxious to have his medical check up completed so he could focus on his annual Christmas treat in La Paille Village, Caroni where he grew up. Kalloo fed hundreds and provided toys and other goodies during Christmas. He was also involved in several other charities.
