Trinidad and Tobago’s beach wrestler Martin Joseph took the silver medal in the Over-80 kilogramme category at the Barbados Invitational Independence Games, at the Pirates Cove, Barbados, recently.

Joseph met Leonardo Dongo of Suriname for the title and put up a brave effort. However, Dongo was adjudged as the winner, despite a few appeals from Joseph’s camp, which included coach Kelvin Guy.

In his run to the final, Joseph defeated Suriname’s Marciano Tsang in the first round, Rico Hurley of Barbados in the second round and another Bajan, Renaldo Stuart, in the semi-final.

The Games were hosted by the Barbados Olympic Association in conjunction with the Barbados Wrestling Association.

And, in related news, the National Wrestling Federation of Trinidad and Tobago will be staging its inaugural beach wrestling tournament on January 21.
