Six men are expected to appear in the Couva Magistrate’s Court today on charges of robbing people of over $20,000 as well as jewelry last Friday. The robberies were committed in the Claxton Bay area.

During a police exercise on the weekend, the men were arrested in Claxton Bay. The exercise was coordinated by Supt Belfon and included ASP Pierre, Inspector Bhagwand and Sgt Ali.

The anti-crime exercise started last Friday at 4 pm and ended on Saturday afternoon, during which, search warrants were executed at several houses. In addition to the arrest of the six, police also seized a rifle, a revolver and 99 rounds of ammunition in a house. Two cell phones, believed stolen, were recovered.

Apart from the six robbery suspects, four other people were held during the raids.

In an unrelated exercise, four men were arrested in Princes Town and four firearms, one magazine and a quantity of ammunition seized. The men were arrested at a bar in Iere Village. Police said the men will be placed on identification parades in connection with several armed robberies.
