Blood continues to flow in the streets unabated as the nation records its 422nd murder. Kevin Pereira, a 30-year-old father of three, was shot dead on Balthazar Street in Tunapuna. He was killed on his daughter’s birthday.

Pereira, a businessman, lived at St John’s Road, St Augustine. He was driving at about 9.30 am yesterday, when his car was forced off the road by another car from which, gunmen jumped out and began shooting at Pereira who was the lone occupant in his car. He was shot several times and died in the vehicle.

MURDERED: Father of three, Kevin Pereira.

Relatives gathered and sat on the pavement, some weeping, as police processed the scene. Overcome with grief, the victim’s mother cried out, “Kevin, get up! In Jesus’ name ,get up! Why are we doing this? We killing each other!” Other relatives said Pereira was going for a haircut in preparation for his daughter’s birthday party.

Relatives described him as a industrious, quiet person. “He was not doing anything to anybody. If he was a pest and was interfering with people it would have been different, but he wasn’t like that. He never even used to lime and go out or anything. All he lived for was to provide for his three children.” Pereira’s body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for autopsy. No arrest has been made and investigations are ongoing.
