First Flight Chess at Lara Academy

Local junior chessists will be vying for a share in the $5,000 prize-fund at stake for the First Flight Chess Life – a scholastic chess contest sponsored by First Flight Air Ambulance Company with assistance from the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs.

The annual 7 round Swiss style tournament, organised the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Foundation, is preparing to welcome 120 school children primarily from San Fernando and surrounding areas to the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.

The First Flight Chess Life is the first chess competition to be staged at the cricket stadium which was opened earlier this year. The one-day tournament will take place on Saturday from 9 am and ends at 5 pm.

The competition is open to all junior players and will comprise five rating categories: Novice A, Novice B, Under 1200, Under 1400 and an Open section.

Top local junior players Mikel Martin from Naparima College, Candidate Master Rayden Rampersad of San Fernando T.M.L Primary School and Jennika Lynch of Bishop Anstey High School are expected to compete.
