Daily paid workers get salaries

After two weeks, 1,500 daily-paid workers in the Port of Spain City Corporation finally received their salaries from the Ministry of Finance yesterday, president general of the Amalgamated Workers’ Union Michael Prentice confirmed.

Prentice thanked the corporation and the ministry for honouring the commitment to the workers and their families. He said while he is satisfied with the outcome, the union is scheduled to meet with acting CEO of the city corporation Prakash Dindial next Tuesday to discuss overtime.

“The workers were paid their regular wages, and that is what had us most concerned. While we’re satisfied with this, we still intend to meet with the city corporation on Tuesday to discuss the issuance of the workers’ overtime. This arose because of staff shortage within the city council, which has forced available workers to work longer hours.”
