A couple and their two young children were, yesterday, without a home after a fire destroyed it at St Johns Village on the outskirts of San Fernando.

Savitri Aaron,47, her husband Marchan and their sons, Dillion, 14, and Brandon, 21, were not at home when the fire started.

According to a police report, the fire started at about 11 am in the front room of the home and quickly spread to other rooms. Neighbours who were alerted to the fire, contacted fire officers of the Princes Town Fire Station. But, by the time officers arrived one the scene, the house was gutted.

“Nothing was saved,” Aaron sobbed. “We lost every single thing that you could think of. All our years of hard-earned money gone up in flames. My son’s uniform and his school books gone. I can’t believe this is happening.”

The family has been living at the address for over ten years. Aaron said she was in San Fernando doing an erand for her husband when she received a telephone call that the house was on fire and rushed back to her home. Aaron said “I am telling you when I reach home, there was no house. Everything was burnt to the ground. I cried. This is very hard for us to start over.”

She said with Christmas just next month, she felt very sad to know that her family was now without shelter.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. Princes Town Police are investigating.
