5 held after Sangre Grande bar robbery

Mere minutes after bandits shot and robbed patrons at a bar in Sangre Grande, they were arrested by members of the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Task Force and Crime Patrol.

According to a police release yesterday, police on patrol along the Eastern Main Road in Sangre Grande responded to reports of gunfire at the Orinoco Bar around 1 am on Wednesday and promptly began searching for the white Nissan AD wagon in which the thieves reportedly escaped.

Less than 17 minutes later, police spotted and intercepted the vehicle, ordered the five male occupants out and searched it. They found a revolver with three rounds of .38 mm ammunition, two cell phones and a quantity of cash which was reported as stolen from the bar. The suspects include a 17-year-old, 25-year-old, 30-year-old, 42-year-old and 47-year-old, all of Ste Madeleine, and are expected to be charged with robbery with aggravation, shooting with intent and possession of a firearm with ammunition.
