Enrique golden at Caribbean Jr Road Cycling

TT cyclist Enrique De Comarmond won two gold medals at the 2017 Junior Caribbean Road Cycling Championships in Barbados over the weekend.

Enrique De Comarmond won two gold medals for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2017 Junior Caribbean Road Cycling Championships held in Barbados over the weekend. Jonathan Rawlins also got on the podium for TT with a silver medal.

De Comarmond was triumphant in the time trial and road race events in the juvenile category, while Rawlins finished behind De Comarmond in the road race.

In Sunday’s road race, De Comarmond won in a time of one hour, 46 minutes and 06.17 seconds (1:46:06.17), Rawlins copped silver in 1:47:17.53 and Barbadian Luke Staffner earned bronze in 1:50:11.00.

The road race circuit was 12.7 km long with the juveniles attempting six laps which included challenging climbs and rapid descents.

On Saturday in the individual time trial, the route was a circuit distance of 10.1km in which juniors covered two laps, while women and juveniles did only one.

The event was UCI-sanctioned with participants under the age of 19 years old competing. A team of six athletes represented TT at the championships including De Comarmond, Rawlins, D’Angelo Harris, Lorenzo Orosco, Darius Beckles and Ronell Woods.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation congratulated the TT cyclists on their achievements and said it is looking forward to their continued development in the sport.
