Cop’s wife charged with murdering him

The common-law wife of PC Sherwin Lela, who died after he was burnt in a fire at his home in Oropune Gardens on September 4, appeared before an Arima magistrate yesterday charged with murdering him.

Kimlee Cezair, 33, a baker of Arima was charged by acting Sgt Shawn Ammon of the Homicide Bureau after advice was given by Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC to the police on Friday last.

She appeared before first court magistrate Gillian Scotland and was represented by attorney Nicholas Rampersad.

Lela, an officer at the Port of Spain CID, sustained burns on his face, neck, abdomen and back.

It is alleged the fire was started while Lela and Cezair were arguing. He died on September 11.
