Six to be inducted into SJC POS' Hall of Excellence

Six women, including outstanding alumni and two Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, will be inducted into the St. Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain’s Past Pupils’ Hall of Excellence on Wednesday at the school’s chapel.

This year’s awardees are: Margaret Gittens, former President of the SJC POS Past Pupils’ Association – Outstanding alum (posthumous); Allyson Hamel-Smith, Child Psychologist – Outstanding alum; Angela Hamel-Smith, Chairman and Founding Member of the Foundation for Human Development, Director and Founding Member of the School Leadership Centre of Trinidad and Tobago – Outstanding alum; Jocelyn Monica Pierre, former Director of the Marionette’s Chorale and National Award recipient for contributions to Culture and Music – Outstanding alum; Sr. Annetta Juliana Alexander, Founder of the Trinidad and Tobago Reading Association, Principal, Vice President of the Girl Guides Association of Trinidad and Tobago, and Provincial Superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny and Sr. Jean Devenish Huggins, Educator and Sister of St. Joseph of Cluny (posthumous)

Established by the Past Pupils’ Association in September 2001, the Hall of Excellence honours SJC POS past pupils who have excelled in various facets of their lives and have made a significant contribution to the development of the school.

This year’s inductees join the ranks of 66 former inductees including first female judge of the Appeal Court, Justice Jean Permanand, and first UWI St. Augustine Campus Librarian, Dr. Alma Jordan.

The theme for this year’s ceremony is “Women – Let your voices be heard” and the feature address will be delivered by Speaker of the House, Bridgid Annisette-George. Outgoing Archbishop Joseph Harris will preside over the ceremony and bless the inductees.
