Better debating skills from MPs

THE EDITOR: Where are the debating skills of parliamentarians in this country? Members of Parliament need to sharpen their thinking and speaking skills.

The people expect more than cries of indignation and attack. The times are too grave, the challenge too urgent and the stakes too high to permit customary passions of political debate. Political bashing, character assassination only promote bigotry in this land of soap-opera politics, of which we have had enough.

The success of any government, public or private institution is determined on results, not excuses or diversion tactics designed to camouflage ineptitude. The statistical/empirical evidence is overwhelmingly undeniable and our political leaders will live in infamy as history will attest. So indeed would a populace who allowed such a perpetration.

“We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light a candle that can guide us through that darkness to a safe and sane place” (John F Kennedy, 35th US President).
