2 teens arrested as cops find guns and ganja

Southern Division police recovered a loaded high-powered rifle, a pistol, an estimated 100 rounds of ammunition and a small quantity of marijuana at an apartment building in Princes Town yesterday.

Police also detained two teenagers - 16 and 18-years-old - both of whom remained in police custody up to last evening.

Under the supervision of Snr Supt Zamsheed Mohammed, Supt Rohan Pardasie and Insp Don Gajadhar, a party of officers went to the building at Petit Café, Princes Town, at about 8 am to execute a search warrant. When police searched the apartment, they found a USA-made, loaded AR15 firearm; a .45 pistol with six rounds of ammunition, a quantity of 5.56 ammunition and the marijuana.

Police arrested the two occupant of the apartment. The 18-year-old is unemployed and 16-year-old does not attend school, investigators said. Sgt Ramlogan and Cpl Ramdial of the Princes Town CID and Southern Division Task Force respectively co-ordinated the exercise. Other police officers who assisted in the exercise included PCs Jackman, Ramkissoon, Balgobin, Ragooonanan, De Boulet and Maynard and WPC Stoute.

Once charged, the two teenagers will appear in the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court.

Meanwhile, three men are expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate today charged with possession of a gun and quantity of ammunition which were found inside a vehicle on Friday evening.

According to a police report, at about 5.30 pm, a team of police officers including Cpls Bisnath and Pulchan, PC Boodram and other police officers of the Southern Division Task Force were on an anti crime exercise when they stopped a vehicle near the Tarouba Link Road in Marabella .

The vehicle was searched and a revolver and five rounds of .38 revolver were found inside. The three occupants of the vehicle - ages 19, 26 and 29 years - were arrested.
