Will ban work?

THE EDITOR: Would banning cell phones or cell phones with cameras stem the violence in schools? Is the focus on the Ministry of Education looking good?

Minister Anthony Garcia, please get help in putting policies in place to curb the violence.

It’s a huge task. It would involve representatives of various ministries coming together with representatives of Parent-Teacher Associations, with educationalists, with psychologists.

Put a committee together, start working urgently and assiduously on this negative social phenomena.

Understand that the violence manifested in schools now is not an overnight thing; it is the result of years of values-neglect, parental neglect and institutional neglect.

While the political game is outing “fires” and damage control, it is more important to prevent fires, if not (God forbid) murders will move from the homes and streets to the schools.
