Biche drug trial

“Some call it ‘pot’, others call it ‘hemp’. Some call it ‘ganja’, some call it ‘Cushe’. This case is about Cushe from Cushe.”

With this opening statement to a High Court judge and jury in the San Fernando High Court yesterday, a State attorney presented the prosecution’s case against a man from Cushe Trace, Rio Claro for possession of 920.83 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Kenwyn Lazar, 61, is before Justice Maria Wilson and a nine-member jury. He pleaded not guilty.

State Attorney Trevor Jones told the court that on March 12, 2004 at about 11 am, police drove into Cushe Trace.

In a vehicle were Police Constables Garcia, Rampersad and others who saw Lazar who ran away from them. It is alleged they later found a bag containing the marijuana. The trial continues on Monday.
