The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) has launched an investigation into a complaint by Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal who, through attorney Israel Khan, alleged collusion existed between members of the Police Service and certain politicians to defame opposition members.

In a letter dated October 23, signed by director David West and addressed to Khan, the PCA said having “carefully perused all documents which you have provided, (it has been) surmised that based on the information presented, your complaint falls within the remit of the Police Complaints Authority.

“In the circumstances, this matter is presently receiving our attention and the PCA will revert to you in due course,” West said.

In a letter dated October 16 to West, Khan described as a “serious and dangerous development” for Government Minister Camille Robinson-Regis to read out a police warrant in Parliament in which mention was made of Moonilal’s alleged involvement in criminal offences.

Khan also referred West to statements made by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley at Piarco International Airport on September 1 when he told the media Moonilal “has questions to answer about the handling of public monies and for which information was provided in a court and the court being so satisfied, allowed warrants to be issued.”

Khan also told West his client wrote the Commissioner of Police on September 5 again asking for due process and there has been no response to that letter.
