La Croix to face Jones in MMA middleweight contest

Spartan Caribbean Fighting Championship will be hosting ‘Redemption’ Professional Mixed Martial Arts Cage fights tomorrow at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Bridgetown, Barbados.

The main event of the evening is the middleweight clash between Trinidad and Tobago`s Brandon La Croix, who has a 3-0 record, and Barbadian Sheldon Jones (7-2).

The last time La Croix fought was a welterweight victory in 2015 so he is eager to return to the ring, at a higher weight class.

He said, “I’m quite confident, I believe I’ll be ready for my opponent. I had a seven-week training camp and I believe that I did everything necessary to ensure that my hand is raised on Friday.”

The 22-year-old, who trains at the Rough House Mixed Martial Arts in St James, continued, “I’m already on weight so I’m ready for a war. I’m going to represent Trinidad and Tobago to the best of my ability once again.”

Each fight will consist of three rounds, each with a duration of five minutes. The TT`s contingent comprise of Omar Smith, Randy Sooknarine, Larry Paponette, David Martin, Kerron Sandy, Naomi Fraser and La Croix.

Fights on the bight are as follows: Sheldon Jones vs Brandon LaCroix (Middleweight), Renaldo Stuart vs Calvin Mallet-Coppin (Middleweight), Oneale Chase vs Randy Sooknarine (Welterweight), Dakoda Walkes vs Naomi Fraser (Women’s Flyweight), Anthony Snagg vs Larry Paponette (Welterweight) Jamar Husbands vs Omar Smith (Lightweight), Kumi Israel vs David Martin (Flyweight), Dale Marshall vs Kerron Sandy (Featherweight).
