Good work by corporation

THE EDITOR: Allow me to congratulate the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation for the splendid, caring works executed in the Caparo area to assist the hundreds of residents following the Divali flood debacle.

Special mention must be made of the chairman, Councillor Henry Awong, and Councillors John Lezama and Ryan Rampersad. Their intervention to assist the hundreds who were trapped by the flood waters was noticeable and they must be given credit, especially when the ODPM was in deep slumber.

It was four days of heavy work in moving bulk garbage, providing mattresses, cooked food, hampers and the like.

We must not allow this act of humanitarianism to go unnoticed, and I humbly suggest the corporation carefully minutes how it was able to bring relief and comfort to the affected residents of Caparo and environs.

I urge it to send copies of this report to all 14 municipal, city and borough corporations, as well as to the Prime Minister, the Ministers of National Security and Rural Development and Local Government, the ODPM, and the UNDP.

PARAS RAMOUTAR, Caparo
