Getting citizens to show respect

THE EDITOR: The plea from Commissioner of Prisons William Alexander to the acting Commissioner of Police to allow off-duty prison officers to carry firearms seems a reasonable request.

However, I am afraid his may be a voice in the wilderness.

In my opinion, things in TT can only improve if everyone had access to a firearm. Citizens will learn to respect each other fearing the outcome if they step out of line.

The only other alternative is to appoint an “outside” experienced policeman to act as CoP. He, however, must be accompanied by a team of foreign policemen and given full control of the management of the Police Service.

As I have said before, it is pointless appointing a local officer to the CoP post.

There won’t be any improvement in the crime detection rate.

We just don’t breed men with the criteria and patriotism required for such an important position.
