$600,000 ganja up in smoke

Marijuana trees valued $660,000 were destroyed in Rio Claro on Thursday by police. Officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit, Rio Claro CID and the Eastern Division Task Force went into the forest near Ragoo Trace in Libertsville after they received certain information.

Police came across a marijuana field containing 660 trees that were chopped down and set on fire. No one was arrested during this find.

In an unrelated exercise, a homemade shotgun and ten rounds of 16-gauge ammunition were found by police in Central Division, during an exercise between 1 pm and 10 pm on Thursday.

Officers got an anonymous tip which led them to some bushes near San Salvador Estate in Gran Couva. No one was arrested in connection with the find.

More marijuana was found by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) while on an exercise in El Soccorro on Thursday. Between the hours of 6.35 am and 12.15 pm, the IATF along with the Canine Branch went to Dookie Drive where they searched an abandoned lot. The officers found a bag containing two kilos of marijuana worth $20,000. No one was arrested in connection with the find.
