Trimont, Providence shine at Scotia table tennis

Trimont College and Providence Girls Catholic School were among the top schools at the Scotiabank Schools Table Tennis Tournament at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua, last weekend.

In the boys open team final, Trimont College won the title by defeating St Mary’s College three games to zero (3-0) in the five-game series. Trimont were represented by Luc O’Young, Jessie Dookie and Mikeal Dookie, while St Mary’s were represented by Nicolas Lee, Dylan Lee and Nicolai Babour Alexis. Prior to the final, Trimont defeated Naparima A in the semifinals and St Mary’s defeated Hillview – both by 3-0 margins.

Chelsea Fong and Brittany Lee of Providence delivered a strong performance to win the girls open team division. Nalini Boodoo and Danielle Dick of Naparima had to settle for second place, while Rayanna Boodhan and Mikheala Mabella of Lakshmi Girls finished third.

In the girls Under-15 team category, Naparima A led by Sherya Maharaj defeated Bishop’s High School in Tobago 3-0 to lift the crown.

The Under-15 boys team competition will be completed in Tobago on October 28 with two teams from Bishop’s competing for the title.

The A side will be led by Derron Douglas.

The girls Under-15 singles saw Sherya Maharaj getting past Sydney Ramtahal 3-0 in the final which was an all Naparima contest. In the semifinal round, Ramtahal defeated Rayanna Boohan from Lakshmi Girls 3-2 and Maharaj defeated Michel Stroude from Naparima 3-0 in the other semifinal.

In the girls open singles, Chelsea Fong of Providence defeated Nalini Boodoo of Naparima 3-0 in the final.

In the boys open singles final, an all Trimont affair saw O’Young come from 2-1 down to edge Dookie 3-2.

Dillon Bruce and AB Francis also captured singles titles. Bruce defeated Gabriel John 2-0 in an exciting final in the Under-9 category, while Francis of Malabar defeated Uzair Omardeen from ASJA 3-2 in the boys Under-15 singles final.
