Two charged with kidnapping Venezuelan

Two labourers of Carapo, detained in connection with the kidnapping of a Venezuelan man, were charged yesterday following instructions from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard.

The two men, ages 27 and 38, were charged by Corporal Ramkissoon of St Joseph Police Station with the kidnapping of Jason Guerra.

Yesterday, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit , along with head of the Port of Spain CID acting Snr Supt Ajith Persad, presented a file to Gaspard and sought directions.

Persad and other officers rescued Guerra, 33, at Carapo last Wednesday morning. Guerra was kidnapped two Saturdays ago while liming at Caps bar at Curepe.

Friends were later contacted by a person who demanded a $100,000 ransom for his safe return.

Police carried out extensive investigations and last Wednesday, officers led by Persad searched Carapo where they found Guerra hidden in some bush.

On Friday, five suspects were detained, however, after further investigations three of the men were released and two were charged.

They will appear before an Arima magistrate today.
