Oil spill can spell death

THE EDITOR: Oil pumps life into our economy’s veins. However, when it is carelessly handled and allowed to leak into our ocean as it did on Sunday, it can spell death to marine life as well as to the fishing and yachting industries that are already struggling to stay afloat.

This latest oil spill has affected every grain of sand, pebble, rock, shell, shoreline, mangrove, jetty, boat, buoy, rope, anchor chain, fishing net, pelican, seagull, fish, shrimp and crab in the surrounding waters of the north-western peninsular.

The spill is quite substantial and the culprits must to be held accountable and made to pay for the massive clean-up — and this must be done each and every time these occurrences take place.
