Pregnant woman chopped

A seven-month-pregnant woman who was viciously chopped during a home invasion on Thursday afternoon remained warded in serious but stable condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

Police reports say the 26-year-old victim was at her Arima home shortly after 11.30 am on Thursday, when two men entered the house and began demanding cash, jewellery and other valuables. The pregnant woman, who was alone, resisted, telling the intruders she had no money. However, they began ransacking the house prompting the woman to scream to alert her neighbours.

One of the bandits began chopping the woman. Her screams were heard by neighbours who alerted the Arima police, resulting in the intruders fleeing the scene with a few valuables. The victim was taken to hospital by police and remained warded up to yesterday. Investigators are hoping to secure surveillance footage from the area to assist in identifying the suspects.
